E-type Club Day

The Biggest Test for my new Racer yet! But we’re nearly there

August is reputed for good weather, a month that you would normally associate with warm climates and a distinct lack of rain. The 14th of August was a completely different kettle of fish, the heavens opened and we were treated to some of the wettest rain that I have ever seen.Undeterred by the weather the MWS “A-team” of fitters and salesman arrived at the Guard’s Polo Club for the E-type Club Day. Despite the poor weather, over 30 E-types were in attendance which is quite a large number considering most classic car owners will not leave the garage until the sun has put his trilby on.

We pitched our marquee and trailer next to a large “Old English White” gazebo which housed the E-type Club`s equivalent of the royal family. Amongst the endless bottles of champagne were prizes for the “most travelled E-type” and “best looking E-type” which added extra enjoyment to an already pleasurable day. The Jaguar E-type is an icon, a fantastic looking car which represents all that is great about motoring. There was one particular car which stood out to me, not because of its aesthetical appearance but its worn features. Speaking to the owner I discovered that this was his everyday car, a series 3 V12 e-type. To some this may sound extraordinary, but in simple terms it makes sense, these cars were designed and built to be used. Driving a car onto a trailer and transporting it across the country for ten minutes of use is not my idea of fun. A usable asset, which is guaranteed to start everyday and take you in style to your place of work, or Waitrose or anywhere else for that matter is what motoring is all about.

Having never watched a polo match before I was somewhat excited about the prospect of being a spectator at such a prestigious event. And we were in prime location for all the action that was to take place before us. It was just before kick off when the rain died down and it was judged that this would be a suitable time for members to take lunch and enjoy the game. It still amazes me that people can find room for picnic tables and chairs in the back of a two-seater sports car amongst all the tools and spares which are necessary for a classic car on any journey.

The main items of interest on our stand were the Jaguar logo spinners which are very reasonably priced at the moment. Aside from this we had the first of our new Blockley radials on show which are due in stock any day now (Thursday 2nd September 2010). The Blockley Tyre Company has established a very good reputation in the vintage market and I am certain that they will go from strength to strength as they enter the world of radial tyres. If there is anybody who wants to learn more about these exciting new tyres please do not hesitate to give us a call.

Whilst on the subject of tyres we are now offering a 205/70HR15 Enduro white wall tyre which appears to be a great tyre. If you are not a fan of the white wall style tyre do not panic, you can fit the white wall to the inside so that the black wall is all that is visible. The price of these tyres is only £69.50 plus vat, exceptional value for an exceptional tyre.

As the E-type Club Day drew to a close we decided to pack up and head back to HQ, a great day was had by all and the event was extremely well organized so thanks must go to the ladies and gents who headed up this experience.

Our next event is the highly anticipated Beaulieu Autojumble on the 11th and 12th of September, I look forward to seeing you there.

Happy Motoring! Timothy Wilson
